Beautiful place to go , very clean beach lots to do for children, locals very friendly , lots of eating places

Decided to try a different seaside place and we had a good time. went on the beach that had life guards, which is good. plenty of amusements to choose from. fish and chip shop right by the sea front. We enjoyed our day here.

This was once a regular childhood day out to the beach and was brilliant but now I can honestly say when I took my 4 kids here it was completely different to how I remember it, the beach was not clean at all this sea was filthy as you can see from my photo and the walk down to the sea was awful we got capped in sinking sand and mud which sticks to you even when you try and wash it off, and there was young adults loitering about playing explicit loud music smoking illegal substance (which I believe is now the norm for most) I could sort of understand if older teens were to behave like this but not adults! This is not how I remember this place at all.
We did have a nice ish fish and chips from the fish bar right next to the beach although the chips weren’t great overall it was an ok lunch.
We did spend some time in the arcades but when it came to wanting to change up £notes as the machines weren’t working the worker told us that the cashier both was only open at weekends so that saved a few quid I suppose. The tickets the kids did win amounted to not a lot of value and the same worker bluntly said that it was an effort for him to exchange them in the arcade shop as he was to hit and didn’t really want to come back into the arcades to provide this service but he reluctantly did anyway.
Overall I wouldn’t rate this place anymore unless your a younger adult/teenager just wanting to hang out and get wasted and your not worried about the cleanliness of your surround

Old fashion sea side resort wonderful promenade area loved it,clean tidy and not expensive to eat or drink.

We had a lovely time at the beach ....but to be brutally honest it was as much about having family time.
The beach is shingly kind of thing .... The views are okay and the sea is a little murky.....
It does its job and I quite liked leysdown... But it is rough and ready so don't come with high expectations

Wanted to visit a friend in Herne Bay so chose Harts holiday park as a 4 night stay base. We’ve never been to the beautiful and tranquil Isle of Sheppey before. Leysdown is at the end of the island, (no petrol no chain shops) the beach is award winning with lifeguards. Must be 1/4 mile out low tide, then bath water warm and high tide (with bonus jellyfish!). Arcades, rides, Thursday market, bucket and spade shops, takeaways from shellfish seafood stall to pie n mash, piri piri chicken and fish n chips. It’s all here for the eating! The council has made a lovely job of the village, flowers, rec, beautiful benches and bandstand. A little further on is Shellness beach and Swale trail, with free parking and a great Garden Cafe. Someone said there’s nothing to do on Sheppey. Embrace I say, and paddle in the clean sea!

A lovely beach of sand and shingle and wonderful open sky sunsets to view. Vey clean and interesting. Stretching a long way for you to choose to walk or rest and play.

Stopped here to go on the beach. Unfortunately as we got here it started to rain. We got to peek at the beach before being blown away almost by the wind accompanying the rain. Shame as it did look ideal to enjoy the views and relax. Some were brave and went for a swim but not for long! We will be back again soon!

We were in between properties, so decided we would book a caravan long term from a friend and stayed the summer of 2021.
I had history with Leysdown. Thirty plus years ago, we would come down to the beach with a van load of kids from our families, so was fairly familiar with the area, all be it from years ago.
Leysdown was still it old self really. Long sandy beaches, nice people, basics available locally and lovely walks for the dog. Enjoyed the summer here and we even found a property fairly local at Eastchurch so now we live on the Island. I just like the peace you can get when walking up to the nature reserve at the East end of the island.

The beach could do with bit of cleaning. Appreciate its everyone's responsibility. More food shops with variety of choices will also attract more people.

Yes you can between October and April
But there is beaches that are dog friendly away from the main stretch of beach

Years ago there were public toilets and showers on the promenade. Are they still there?

They certainly are, they're also constantly manned to ensure they're as fit for use as public beach facilities can be.
