My wife and I spent three days at the end of May (two in the Montalcino region and one in Montepulciano) tasting wines with Alexandra. When we initially contacted her, we mentioned our interest in learning more about the differing terroirs and wines of the northern and southern parts of the Montalcino region. She arranged for us to visit three wineries in each of these areas and suggested that we go to Montepulciano on the third day. She chose a combination of excellent small and mid-size wineries and most were in locations that would have been difficult to find on our own. Alexandra was an incredibly knowledgeable and delightful guide. She was fully prepared to discuss the soil, climate and all aspects of the region as well as providing insight into the winemakers and history. She arrived on time each morning, and we were the only ones on the tour each day. The time at each winery was never rushed. We typically spent 1.5 – 2 hours at each location touring the vineyards and/or cellars as well as tasting the wines. The winemaker often participated in the tour and tasting. The tastings were typically paired with bread, local cheese and charcuterie. The middle tasting each day included lunch, which provided a great way to explore food/wine pairings. With so many great wineries to explore in these areas, we will definitely contact Alexandra for future visits.

We had the most incredible day tasting special wines from boutique wineries with Alexandra! We love wine tasting in Napa Valley and having this experience with a certified sommelier made it SO much more special. You feel like you are a super VIP vs just someone the winery is trying to sell to. It’s clear that Alexandra knows everyone in the area and as her clients you get A+ treatment. If you are interested in doing a wine tour around Montalcino (because BRUNELLO! Yum!!) this is the only way to do it. I highly highly recommend!

our wine tasting tour with Alexandra was a highlight, not just for my trip, but ever. In addition to being an expert in her craft, Alexandra was humble, entertaining, insightful, and educational. She introduced us to a full range of wineries, fantastic people, and walked us through the entire process. If we could do the trip over, I would have spent more time with Alexandra in order to learn even more. Absolutely a must visit requirement for anyone visiting the Tuscany wine country. I tried to come up with a critical suggestion to improve her service and couldn't. In addition, she also is an Olive Oil specialist. Ask her, you will not be disappointed!

This was a definite highlight from our entire honeymoon stay in Italy! Alexandra was wonderful, me and my husband know we like wine but otherwise had a fairly rudimentary understanding of the process of tasting wine. This was unlike any experience we had on our trip, we were taught to understand tasting wine, qualifying wine and pairing it with food. In three hours we learned a lot, but Alexandra was also great in balancing teaching with relaxing and having a good time eating and drinking! The tour was amazing, we realized upon arrival to the winery that a tour with her was unlike other tours - we actually toured the cellar and vineyard with the actual winemaker! Alexandra was personable and knowledgeable and made it a very unique experience given her profession as a sommelier that we know we would not have gotten doing another tour. The Brunellos were incredible at the biodynamic vineyard we visited and the food pairings were impeccable. Would recommend to anyone wanting a little more than the average wine tour in the region, and anyone who likes Brunellos :)

We have been on dozens of wine tasting/tours throughout Italy, Spain, and Napa Valley. They are often done by educated winery staff or, if you are fortunate, an occasional winemaker or sommelier. In all of those wonderful experiences, we have never met someone quite like Alexandra. She was charming, easy going, and possessed an incredible wealth of knowledge of wine and winemaking. We only booked her for a four hour tour which included a winery visit and lunch in Montalcino. If it wasn't the end of our trip, we would have definitely scheduled another day.

What was immediately evident was Alexandra's passion for wine, particularly those of Montalcino. As she escorted us through the property, she started things pretty basic, gauging our knowledge of and interest in wine. But as I asked more questions, she got into some very interesting details about Tuscan wine production that were new to me. She was thorough & entertaining, but never talked "over our heads" or buried us in technological jargon. As we moved on to the tasting room, she began with a small tutorial on the Art of Wine Tasting. Although it was not all new to me, she explained a few techniques that really gave you the opportunity to better decipher the bouquet of the wine, to better understand the color and "tears", and to ultimate extract more sensory info as you sipped the wine for the first time. It really made for a great experience and forever changed how I approach a new glass of wine.

The tasting was followed by a delicious Tuscan lunch and a very lively conversation about the pairing of food and wine. It gave us a second opportunity to learn just how knowledgeable she was and to gain some insight on how to change the wines we serve to better compliment the dishes we prepare. We also learned about her Club Brunello, which features offerings for sale from small production or lesser known wineries around Montalcino. It's web based, easy to navigate, and she handles everything door to door.

If you are into wine and headed to Tuscany in your future travels, then plan on a day (or two?) with Alexandra... you will definitely not be dissappointed.

Don’t consider any other way to visit Montalcino, if you want to have an unique experience contact Alexandra! Alexandra is definitely amazing! My wife and I had a terrific time her! More than visiting 3 excellent wineries, we have learned so much about wine, tasting, pairing, Brunellos... and most of all, we had the pleasure of enjoying a great day with such a good companion! We will definitely keep in touch with her, and buy from her Wine Club! Thank you so much Alexandra!Abraços from Pedro and Patricia!!

This review is overdue - but we spent a day with Alexandra during our time in Tuscany in September. It was one of the best days of our trip! She picked us up at our hotel and took us to small, intimate wineries and to a fabulous Tuscan lunch. She is extremely knowledgeable about wine, but educates you at the level that you are. She is pleasant to be with, friendly, and gave us lots of recommendations for the rest of our trip. I would HIGHLY recommend using her!!!

We called Alexandra on Friday and ask her to organise a tasting trip on Saturday or Sunday. Despite the very short notice, Alexandra organised nice whole day trip in well-chosen vineyards.

We have been on a wine tour a few years ago in Tuscany/Chianti, with a private guide who knew a lot about wines (he used to make them), but having a sommelier with us made big difference.

The tour was not a long theoretical monologue, though I am certain that Alexandra could do a detailed theoretical lecture if you ask for it. Instead, it felt more like a long conversation about wines and mutual sharing of experiences. That said, at every stop, we had a more formal introduction to another aspect of wine. In one of those stops, we had a practice of drinking wine in a better way. As it turned out in five minutes we can learn a special technic of drink wine that allowed us to get more out of it immediately.

Alexandra had to rectify our knowledge when we mention something that was not correct. Sometimes it was our lack of knowledge, but at least twice we learn that there can be grave errors on popular blogs or books.

We visited a small family winery, one of the "big ones" and a winery run by an artistic soul. We tried about 12 wines, eat a good meal and met interesting people. We bought few wines from vineyards we visited. We knew what we looking for, so eventually, we found a perfect producer for us on our own and bought even more wine.

I believe Alexandra speaks Italian, French, English and Polish. We speak Polish, English and my wife speaks Italian. Alexandra encouraged the last host to speak English. I don't think he felt comfortable with it and he was switching to Italian, which made my wife happy but I did not understand him. I think it would work better if Alexandra would allow him to speak freely and translate.

That's the only thing I remember that I did not like. All in all, I think it is the best way to start your wine journey or visit in Montalcino. I recommend taking this tour before independent visits in vineyards or looking for wine(s) to buy.

Alexandra provided us one of the best wine experiences of my life, and I have had many. Her passion and knowledge for the wines, people, and history of Montalcino provide a unique day of learning and experiencing the wines from this region. Her personal connections to the wineries and people are a huge asset that makes the day all the more enjoyable. From sitting in a winemakers living room tasting his carefully crafted wine to tasting exclusive wines not usually available you can't beat a day spent with Alexandra. We feel we have made a friend for life. Gracie Mille!

Alexandra is a friendly, charming, and knowledgeable wine guide in the Brunello region. We had a fantastic experience with her. She is well connected in the area and was able to arrange access to some top producers. I would strongly recommend Select Tasting and we would be happy to tour with her again.
