Very artificially curated shops and artisanal stands, department store vibe. It’s like shopping in a gated community. Sadly, we were unable to venture (couple) outside port area very far, CONSTANTLY BEING HARRASSED by AGGRESSIVE LOCALS, asking to be your best friend and show you around etc. Some shop owners in the port area were straight up decietful. Lady wanted $15 for an item, didn’t want to budge and three shops later same item (all made in China) for $5. I’m ok for markups, but 3x is pushing it.
I was part of a cruise ship but unless you have a pre booked excursion FAR from the blight of Jamaica (3rd time in Jamaica, this is disgraceful treatment of tourists-shame on Jamaican tourisme board for being so inactive): DO NOT bother going beyond the closed gates of the port. It is not safe, people being constantly aggressively harassed by locals. I suspect thousands of ppl descend from cruise ships and just take ALL their tourist money beyond Falmouth like dunns river falls and other excursions. It would had been nice if cruiseline would had disclosed: do an excursion or stay within the secure port area: do not venture outside. Pity, I was really looking forward just strolling around Falmouth and take a good four hours to get to know the city. Hugely disappointed. And again, shame on Jamaican authorities for sitting on the hands and closing their eyes. Shameful.

Our ship docked here and it was a good place to pick up souvenirs of Jamaica. It’s a complete tourist area - a quick look outside the gates will show you adjacent areas of poverty. But as a tourist it was very good. The sheaf in the shops were all very friendly (of course - that’s their business) and it was a pleasant way to spend half an hour. Nice photo opps too.

This is one of those cleaned up areas owned by the cruise companies, not by local Jamaicans. It's completely sanitized with their own food, drinks and a live band or two. To see the real Jamaica, wander past the guests. The buildings are falling down, every 2 feet we were stopped by a local wanting to sell us something. The area is dirty, gritty but real. Not worth seeing unless you book an excursion then the cruise company will take you to another sanitized area.

I hate giving a 2. The Jamaican people are so kind and enjoyable. It’s a shame that 99% of the shops aren’t owned by Jamaicans. That could be very wrong, but all the shop owners we saw were clearly not from the island. The little straw market and kiosks appeared to be locals.
Souvenir shops were all about the same with same merch. And there’s a bunch of them. Jamaicans are working to get customers into the store, but the foreigners who own the shop are watching them with a wary eye and a surly attitude.
If you think you may want Cariloha on your cruise, don’t wait until Falmouth to buy. The shop in Cozumel has much better inventory.
Very sorry we didn’t book an excursion on this port day.

Beautiful port well maintained, hand made crafts along local cuisine options. Once you leave the compound and go into the town becomes unpleasant rather quickly. The visit to the historic square was depressing and a waste of time. Trash and debris everywhere. Overall the visit to Falmouth was disappointing. Would not see a reason to visit again. The nice port facility prevents this from being a one star review.

No cruise ship docked so that was good, but it meant most small stalls and were market closed. Took a cab from hotel for a fixed fee and David walked us around town

We grabbed a petty cab to take us around. It’s kind of a dirty city but you have to look past that. The history was extremely interesting. So give it a try. Get off the ship and walk beyond the tourist buying area.

Falmouth was one of our cruise stops. We were told about the "great" deals at Diamonds International, Diamonds Forever, Gold Mine, etc., but nothing could be farther from the truth. Even with our "VIP Card," which "guaranteed" us the best rates on diamonds, jewelry, etc., the prices were double to triple the price we pay for similar jewelry in the United States. Even inexpensive items such as beach bags were more than triple the price in the U.S. ($35 in Falmouth. The same bag in Miami, FL was $9.99). Other than buying a trinket as a souvenir for a family member, don't waste your time here. Save your hard earned cash for when you return to the US where you can support local businesses.

I took a pedicab tour around Falmouth whilst on a cruise. I went with a driver called Everald "Eggroll" his company was amazing always keeping me laughing. He made sure I was safe and having a good time. He took me to "Mama D's jerk shack" where the food was amazing and truly Jamaican. Both the tour and the food will be among my favourite memories from the trip. I would recommend both seperately but the combination of the two made for an amazing day.

How accessible is the area. My daughter is wanting to cruise and we are looking at what ports are like and activities

The port itself is accessible, tours are run by companies providing transportation. Foot traffic outside the gates of the port are rather unsettling. From the moment of crossing the street we were met with demands for money to ensure we would not be bothered. The portion of the city we saw was dirty, unkept, rampant drug use evidence. I do not plan on visiting again.

Is the love lock sign still in the cruise port? We’ve not been since 2019, and I’d love to add my lock.

Is there a beach within walking distance from the port? And is it safe to go?

NO...Based upon recent events there last year we stay in the port area. Be careful. If you venture out we strongly suggest you go with the cruise ship tour.

Hi, it's about a 15 minute walk from the cruise terminal. As you come out the cruise terminal turn right and follow the road past the main town hall/court house and the school is on the right. You can hire a guide outside the port who will give you a walking tour of Falmouth taking in the historical sites and the school.

Good afternoon I dont smoke cigarettes or cigars but i like the aroma a cigar gives...My advice is to ask the barman at the Spice Kitchen and bar. If anyone can help i think it would be him..I got on well with them and found them informative
The spice kitchen is not far from the ship..Its a big open sided place with a distinctive signs ..Hope that helps.

I saw in the reviews there was basket making, is this inside the port and is there a charge to participate. Also I would like to know if the trolley tour (1 hour) outside the gates is safe

I don't know about the trolley tour. The basket making is pretty informal by a small independent vendor. He was taking donations.

Is it possible to enter the store without cruise card id for alcohol purchase? We flew instead of cruise ship this trip.

I was never asked for my cruise ship ID in the stores, but we had to show it to security before entering the shopping area. I’m not sure if the shopping is reserved for the cruise ship passengers only or not.
