This is the park around the Tower of the Americas, which had some interesting water features. The main reason for me being here was the Tower of the Americas.

HemisFair was to San Antonio in 1968 what the World's Columbian Exposition was to Chicago in 1893. The concept of Hemisfair was to unite all the cultures that comprise San Antonio and solidify the city's reputation as a cultural and historic destination. The theme of the fair was "The Confluence of Civilizations in the Americas," celebrating the many nations which settled the region, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the founding of San Antonio in 1718. More than 30 nations and 15 corporations hosted pavilions that displayed everything from artwork from the Prado Museum in Spain to flower gardens from Japan and performances by the Bolshoi Ballet from Russia and Giuseppe Verdi's opera Don Carlos by an Italian troupe. By contrast, in 1893, the World's Fair in Chicago celebrated the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the New World. Called "The Fair that changed America," it introduced more than 27 million people to an abundance of modern marvels, including elevators, the zipper, the Ferris wheel, Cracker Jacks, Hershey's chocolate, Cream of Wheat, Shredded Wheat, Juicy Fruit gum, Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, Aunt Jemima pancake mix, Vienna sausage, the brownie, peanut butter, the first voice recording, motion pictures and the first commercial movie theater. But only two buildings of more than 200 erected for the Chicago Fair still exist--the Museum of Science and Industry and the Art Institute of Chicago. In San Antonio, however, there are several reminders of HemisFair68, including HemisFair Park, a 15-acre urban park that was redeveloped for the 20th anniversary of the fair in 1988 with cascading waterfalls, fountains, playgrounds and lush landscaping, a lasting legacy of HemisFair68. The most notable reminder is the Tower of the Americas, a 750-foot-tall tower which was the fair's theme structure and remains today as San Antonio's tallest structure with a revolving restaurant and observation deck at the top. Other buildings that have been renovated and are open to the public are the Convention Center Theater, now the Lila Cockrell Theater, the Humble Oil Pavilion that now serves as banquet and ballroom facilities for the Hilton Palacio del Rio Hotel, the Mexico Pavilion that now is the Mexican Cultural Institute, the Southern Baptist Pavilion that now serves as offices for the Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation, the State of Texas Pavilion (the fair's largest pavilion) that now is the Institute of Texan Cultures and the third campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio and the United States of America Pavilion that how is the John H. Wood Jr. U.S. District Court for thee Western District of Texas. Finally, in 2015, the famous Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair, a beautifully landscaped wonderland of activities for kids and adults of all ages opened to the public.

A good time to go up the tower is at dusk so that you can see the city and then all the lights come on. It’s a fun thing to do if you have time, it is walkable from the Riverwalk area and you can buy a combo boat ticket and ticket to go up in the tower. The glass elevator on the way up/down is cool. Added bonus for us was a car show at the base of the building. The park is under construction right now, which made it a little confusing and difficult to reach. Not sure how accessible it would be for people with physical disabilities, but it could have been just us not knowing our way around.

Covering outdoor for ticket counter. Small covering of a tent appreciated but a more permanent structure would be great in rain or shine. Staff at restaurant were very rude as we only wanted to see and experience the movement.

Parking is $15 for the Tower of the Americas. Ticket prices are on their website. We went at night and it was very cool. The kids really enjoyed the view and getting to walk around at the top. It was pretty windy at the top the night we went so we were glad not to be wearing a dresses.

Maravilloso! debo agregar que no es un paseo gratuito. Conviene de todas maneras reservar en el restaurante con tiempo e inviertes la entrada en tu cena, ya que solo el mirador no dura más de 1 hora la experiencia.
El valor es desde los 3 a 12 años $13.000, en adelante $19.000. Cabe señala, que el ticket no lo exigen en ningún lado, de hecho, los encuentras votados en la misma avenida.

Wow! There’s no better view than from the turning/spinning Hemisfair…elevator ride up was more suspenseful than the ride down! The food was great too!

Went to the top of the tower, be sure to see all the way around from inside then go to the open viewer deck.

A long expensive wait that was ok. The restrooms were out of order so this was an interesting visit with two less than 10 years of age. The gift shop had two workers for a huge number of visitors. Not as I remembered it.

We ate dinner at the Chart House restaurant, the one at the top of the Hemisfair needle. It was a nice time, and excellent food.

No, you can just walk into the park. There is the Tower of the Americas, I believe you have to pay a fee to go up in the tower.
Why is this park called the “Hemisphere Park”?

I will try and not confuse you with too mush detail. Yes, San Antonio hosted the 1968 World’s Fair which was called HemisFair. Some years later, the San Antonio City Council named the remaining property, HemisFair Park. By 2010, of the original 92 acre site of the fair, less than 40 remaining as city controlled public space. The convention center, the Institute of Texan Cultures and the Federal Courthouse and GSA buildings occupied the majority of the site. So, a non-profit was formed called Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corp. It’s purpose is to develop three world class parks: the Civic Park, Yanaguana Garden and Tower Park.
As there will soon be three parks, City Council was asked to rebrand the entire 92 acres as Hemisfair - no capital “F” and drop the word park. So, it will now be a district within the city just like, King William, Lavaca, Monte Vista and others.
