If you’re there on a Sunday the Mormon Tabernacle Choir does a weekly nationwide televised performance. Brought my mother in law from Florida years ago. Still says it was a highlight of her life. Well worth attending. Open to the public and well attended by many tourists.

The temple itself is a house of worship, and tours of the building are not given. Visitors are invited to learn about the history, construction, and purpose of the temple by visiting the Visitor Center. Building tours are given-without need for appointments- at the Visitor Centers, the famous Tabernacle, and the Assembly Hall. The gardens are lovely and should be enjoyed leisurely year-round.

Short answer; No. The church representatives on site welcome your questions, and will guide you to exhibits which may explain church principles and doctrine, but you will feel very comfortable about being able to roam around on your own without being hounded or having to answer prying questions. Most report finding staff members polite and courteous with no hint of a sales pitch.
