Great experience! For my wife's birthday, I took her and our two teenage daughters on an evening flight. It was breathtaking! Terrific views, friendly crew, and nice champagne! Keep in mind that it's a mobile crew, and the takeoff and landing places change - be sure you know where to meet. Then enjoy the beautiful views and peaceful quiet from 5,000+ feet up!

Awesome experience! Extremely hardworking and diligent crew! We did the sunset slot. Some clouds are good (see the photo!)

Did some research beforehand and felt pretty confident about booking with Compass Balloons. Not only was it a good decision, but it blew my expectations out of the water! Everyone was friendly, professional, and the entire experience was so amazing that even before landing, my partner and I agreed that we would do it again.
We booked a private balloon for two and our pilot was amazing. He experience as a pilot was obvious, as he took the time to change elevations, giving us different perspectives. At one point, we came down low over a citrus grow where you could almost reach out and grab some oranges while at the same time smelling the crops.
The entire experience was memorable and we wouldn't think of booking with anyone else. Stop your research and book with them; you won't regret it.

Definitely something for your bucket list! All of the employees were very friendly - the ground crew, the pilot, the drivers. They all focused on making it the best experience possible. The views were breathtaking! We wish I had done this sooner. Our trip was the sunset location out of Del Mar/Encinitas.

I loved the hot air balloon ride! They left a little earlier than other companies but that was good because we were the first balloon up and got the best views.

Beautiful experience. Pilot and team were very professional, organized and friendly. Postponements for weather were handled efficiently. Equipment was all in excellent condition. Pilot was skillful, and careful. Excellent landing.

We loved our ride! Entire crew was welcoming and made our experience really memorable from start to finish. Our 7 year old's birthday surprise was a big hit!!!

The sunset tour over Del Mar was incredible! No matter that it was too cloudy to see the sunset. So fun to see the balloon blow up and watch as the crew sent regular balloons up to check the wind conditions. They almost cancelled due to weather conditions.
Piloting a hot air balloon is very tricky business. Taking off in a basket is thrilling. Soaring at various elevations over the beautiful estates of Del Mar is breathtaking and interesting. But the landing is the most exciting! It’s different every time. Because it was windy we missed the dirt road and weed whacked up a hill a bit. We stayed in the basket while the crew pull us to the road.
This is not boring. You must try the exhilarating experience and sense of freedom floating in a hot air balloon. Like sky diving but slower!
We plan to do it again! My husband is 66 and felt like a 10 year old.
The crew was top notch in every way. They poured champagne freely and had soda and water too. They are the last ones doing the sunset on the coast. Morning is much easier due to better winds and therefore cheaper. Try the sunset while you can!

A hot air ballon ride was on my bucket list. I was not disappointed. Amazing views over ritzy San Diego neighborhoods, a skillful pilot and a crew with great esprit de corps. A superb experience.

We took a trip out of the Del Mar/Solana Beach area outside San Diego, and had a wonderful time. From the moment we were met by the crew, everything was explained to us in detail and all members of the crew were friendly and helpful.
we piled into a van and headed out to the launch site which was close by. After a glass of champagne we boarded and took off!
Incredible views of the greater San Diego and North County areas. Everything about the flight was great. The pilot was knowledgeable, friendly and informative. We ended up landing quite smoothly near Black Mountain.
We had a glass of Champagne yet again with our pilot and left with great memories!!
We highly recommend Compass Balloons for a flight.

We want to book a sunset tour on December 31, but our flight departs from San Diego is 8:12 pm. If we book the tour, will that be possible for us to catch our flight?

Airborne for about 90 minutes I think, but setup and take down was cool to watch and amazing how such a large balloon packs up into so small a package

How many people will be there in a shared basket app ?

Various basket sizes depending on how many passengers. ours was probably smallest at about 6'x6' for 2 couples plus pilot so travel light. Not enough room for suitcase, folding chair, backpack or sleeping bag but all you need is a phone or camera.

Are non-ballooning family members allowed to come along to departure and landing sites to watch, take pictures, etc,?

Yes but they need to bring their own vehicle to follow. Depending on the wind the balloons take off in different fields. Everyone meets at a Park n Ride and then board into vans before departing to the launch field. The vans usually fill up with booked passengers.
