I greatly enjoyed this area about a dozen years ago, but during our tip, the weather was bad for our 8 days, but we enjoyed trying to snorkel.

On a whim, my husband & I took a drive along the coastline. We found a hidden beach with sea turtles and where Hawaiian locals fish. The view is absolutley beautiful and the lava rock serves as a highlight to the scenery. Continue on the path until you run out of road, find a parking, lock your vehicle.
Take water, where tennis shoes and take a short simple, non strenuous walk thru the lavarock and find an original Hawaiian style village.
On another point, the beaches in Makena are like finding a diamond. You'll be thrilled with the serenity. The beauty of mother nature's creation. Applaud the existence of the sea turtles.
❤🌴👍We LOVED IT!!

Locals love this spot. Guidebooks love this spot. It has easy parking along the street and a short walk to the water. It was our last day and we really wanted one last snorkel. Problem is, Hurricane Lane had the water all churned up. So visibility was awful. It also started pouring buckets of water on us, so everything we left out got soaked. We ran back to the car and it wouldn't open. Was the key fob too wet? Tried to the key, couldn't get it to work in the pouring rain. Friendly people going by ask if we need help. A few minutes later my daughter points out we are trying to get in the wrong car. Our actual car is sitting with the trunk open 50 feet away (filling up with water). What part of this review could be helpful? The area is beautiful, parking is fairly easy, short walk to water, locals say its an amazing spot to snorkel if the water is clear. Note to all: Don't go in the rain after a hurricane.... If you do, make sure the car you are trying to get into is yours.

We snorkled at the Ahihi-Kinau reserve and at this beach. It is marked with a fish sign for entrance to the water and is 1/4 Mike walk back from the cement reserve parking lot. The fish we're so abundant in the shallows where you enter the water that we had to be careful not to step on them. It's a beautiful protected cove.
