We get here at 3 almost 4 and they close at 5! They saw us getting out and they closed the door and put up a closed sign up did say anything to us the bathrooms out side say closed for winter and its spring break! Very disappointed!!!

The guides were very informative and fun. I brought a group of adults with age range from 23- 65 and everyone had a wonderful adventure. No problems with equipment and we were given a less adventure option if we felt we couldn't "spelunk" but everyone took the adventure and it was a great beginner experience.

Guides were good. One photographed a lot of the atmosphere and crawling scenes. The knee pads were stretched out from years of use, so they fell down and were not effective when needed. For the price of the event, new pads are a requirement of the business. Unsatisfactory.
The taste of the adventure created a desire to challenge ourselves more.
I plan to spelunk in Carlsbad Caverns in NM in a couple weeks! I thank our guides for that forward momentum.
The guides were very encouraging. My friend and I really valued their expertise.
I treasure the photos we got, and made a photo book of them. Muscles 💪 are alive after the workout.
Caves were highlighted by hard hats with miner's flashlights. The guidance to keep three points of contact helped, and actually sitting down and sliding was a viable option.
We did the Grand Caverns tour next door just prior to our spelunking. So we knew what we were observing.
Didn't see any bats. 🦇
I suggest selling bat boxes in the gift shop. I wanted to see bats and I want a bat box. "Bats are our friends!" The info on the museum walls informed us how many pounds of insects one bat consumes in a year. I do not want to spray chemicals on my lawn, as I have pets.
Wish I could post pictures! The caves were awesome!
Learned that a Cave is in a mountain.
Definitely don't wear shorts or sleeveless shirts. Glad I'd visited the Grand Caverns a couple weeks before, so I was "up" on the protocol.
The number we needed to call did not give a live connection to the guide, Sunday, so we were not able to hike at 8:30 am as planned. That was another glitch. My friend works overnight at Walmart, and we needed a morning adventure. So we ran into expense biding our time till the noon regular guided tours. Again, unsatisfactory customer service. Had been assured that we could call a day ahead and get the very early guide.
It's expensive.
The park grounds have a stream, so we fished afterwards♥️. Caught and released a small mouth bass.
I'd do it again if a Monday guide could actually schedule to be present at 8:30 am.

If you enjoy checking out all the commercial caves in Virginia and want a new experience then this is it. The cave has been closed for 100 years to tourists but is open once again to visit. There is nothing modern about this caving experience. You have to wear clothes you don't mind getting muddy and a helmet. My helmet saved me bumping my head several times. I am not in the best of shape but had a blast climbing through the small spaces that opened up to fantastic formations. The further you get into the cave the better the formations get. The guides were very knowledgeable about the history of the cave. This is a great beginners introduction to spelunking. There were a few tight spaces I did not want to do but this tour supplies the original path form 100 years ago whenever you don't want the more adventurous tour. I definitely plan on returning and doing some of the tighter spaces. My friend and I were the only two on the tour so we had a private guided tour of the cave. Also a lot of interesting signatures from the from the 1870's. Cool burn marks from the days of touring the cave with just torches. Be sure to bring a bright flashlight to be able to see all the great formations this cave has as well as looking down passages. Great new adventure for Central Virginia.
