Not my choice of activities on a spring day but oh, it's possible. Be careful

The roads definitely have some twists & turns but I wouldn't consider them to be horrible. Driving the speed limit helps & definitely no reading or watching your phone, ipad or tv from the backseat. Of course, I'm used to what we call, 'kiss your butt' curves where the turns double over on each other going up & down towards the Smokies, & in eastern Tennessee.

There is a ski resort lodge at the top area where parts of The Shining movie were filmed. Very historic, interesting place. Visited it last summer when we stayed in Hood River

The actual mountain? It is a long day trip from Hood River. There is a great ranger site south of the town that gives lots of info. There are not many places to eat sobpack food and drinks. It is very much a make your own fun place, hiking and walking. Timberline Lodge is a must but gets very busy for lunch. We were stunned by the scenery but we are old fogeys, not sure how long a 9 year old can sit and coo st scenery, no matter howcamazing

We had no problems with altitude, it's not too high but we didn't try to trek all the way to the top. Local roads were good as was parking.

Highway 26 around the south end of Mt. Hood. You go through Gresham, Sandy, Estacada and up through Government Camp to get to the Timberline lodge. The waterfall ally route is on the old highway, on Highway 30 but can’t be accessed because of the fires last year.

I do not think you will not experience any altitude sickness, but take it easy to start with.

I agree about calling ahead. I noticed that the roads are nicely paved. Just be careful, there are many hairpin curves.
