Idyllic place for a weekend piano retreat.
I know they run these courses as a business but they make you feel like a guest at a country house weekend party. Owners joined us for dinner too.
The pianos are lovely to play. The tuition by David Hall was memorable.
Big thank you to everyone. I came away relaxed and a better musician.

Extremely welcoming team in an inspirational and tranquil area of East Sussex near the A21 South of London. A beautiful setting for viewing the countryside and meeting with friends and family. Large picnic area and on site facilities for all including a cafe.

Great place, a living museum where the staff play the instruments. Amazing house, with great well kept gardens, and very friendly owners. good food available in the undercroft. It's well off the road, so not accessible by walkable / public transport really.

A beautiful location, a warm lovely house and the instruments were great especially as they were demonstrated at certain times and the musicians played and talked about the instruments as you walked around. I do not play the keyboards but all can have a go from children to visitors who are very tallented. There were also a few barrel organs.
Very well done and highly recommend a visit.
The garden were a bonus and the restaurant tea and cakes were very nice.

We were made very welcome and sat down just in time for an interesting and delightful demonstration concert given by the owner and another artist - price included in the entry fee. The owner is wrapped up in his wonderful collection and full of information.
After the concert we explored the house, which is interesting in itself, as is the lovely garden. One notable feature of this collection is that unless an instrument is labelled otherwise, visitors who wish can try out all manner of keyboard instruments of different eras. When we were there a young pianist (about 9 years old?) was working his way around the collection with his mother in tow. And afterwards we learned that there are special events to foster talent and interest among younger players.
This is a place that doesn't become impossibly crowded and has interest for others besides music specialists. I live in Kent and can't imagine why this was my first visit - there will certainly be others.

I was looking for a way of passing the time while my husband was on a course, and was pleased to find Finchcocks as I am fascinated by musical instruments. It's not a museum where everything of interest is behind ropes or in glass cases - the whole idea is that you play the instruments so that you can hear and feel their characteristics. People quickly overcame any shyness, and the house was buzzing with music, whether it was a demo by the visiting pianist or a 6-year-old playing with two fingers. I bought Richard Burnett's book "Company of Pianos" so that I could remember my visit, and it has the bonus of a CD so I can can hear the instruments again. The cellar restaurant offers lovely food and drinks too, plus there are gardens to explore. I really hope to be able to visit again - it was an absolute joy to be there and I was sad to leave.

We booked a concert given by Kate Semmens, a beautiful soprano and Steven Devine, a harpsichordist singing and playing pieces from the Anna Magdalena notebooks. The concert was in one of the rooms dedicated to an amazing collection of keyboard instruments and the intimate Georgian atmosphere really enhanced the evening. The 7.30 concert was preceded by an excellent two course dinner - roast pork with interesting and well presented vegetables followed by apple strudel and ice cream and coffee - all for £20! Yes, that's the concert and dinner and a glass of wine in the interval.
Dinner is served in the cellar which has been beautifully restored and it's just a step up to the concert room. In the interval there is a glass of wine also included and an opportunity to see the collection in the many handsome rooms. Katrina Burnett the owner of Finchcocks is a delightful host and is clearly delighted to welcome people and share this extraordinary place.
A real gem in this extremely beautiful part of Kent

We went just looking for a place to go and was really impressed by the building and gardens, very well preserved and maintained . The front is very impressive and a real picture opportunity. The collection of musical instruments is simply staggering. If music and in particular piano instruments is your thing then you will be in heaven . Some beautiful ancient harpsichords and one offs perfectly maintained .
Well worth a visit on a nice day.

We had a lovely evening at Finchcocks. We enjoyed a very good 2 course candle lit meal in the Cellar restaurant. I had a nice glass of merlot with duck and red cabbage. I have attached a photo of the dessert which was a work of art. The food was slow coming so there wasn't time for coffee. After the meal Dame Emma Kirkby and her ensemble of singers plus 2 lute players performed music by Dowland, sublime!
A glass of wine was served during the interval and included in the price of the ticket. It would be great if there were soft drinks available as an alternative to wine especially as people have to drive home afterwards. My husband can't drink alcohol so had nothing in addition to missing out on tea/coffee at the end of the meal.

Schitterende attractie met gepassioneerde eigenaars/uitbaters in werkelijk pure engelse stijl. Als men de voortreffelijke lunch neemt is een halve dagtrip aangewezen. Er is zoveel te zien (en te horen)
