Poor example for the coal industry just when it needs positive publicity

Very disappointing for nearly all the interactive displays were not working. it is sad to see such a potentially great museum falling into disrepute due to a lack of maintenance/

Coal mine history

Interesting place to visit. Gives the history of the largest coal in Qld.
The cafe attached needs an upgrade on service and retraining on making coffee. Really bad.

Well worth stopping for a look

There are quite a few short videos etc on teh coal industry, past and current. A lot of information, presented in a very easy to follow manner. Large car park.

Big Coal Cafe

Although the Open flags were up, there were no cars parked outside so we weren’t sure if the centre was open until we walked up to the door to the large air-conditioned centre which had a café attached. As soon as you walked through the front door, there was a massive photo of one of their trucks on the wall which was striking. Staff were really friendly. Amenities were clean. Enjoyed our milkshake and visited the Japanese Garden whilst there.

Don't bother stopping!

If you want to call in here, ignore the open sign , ignore the open hours online here, keep driving!

Called in to have coffee and a snack, use facilities etc

At 2.28 pm was told by young woman, we could get a take away coffee, no we could not sit there to drink it, no we could not purchase from the display cabinet.
Toilets were inaccessible and locked!

Incredibly bad for tourism, business and image!

According to the signage and online site, closing time was 5pm!

We are speechless and disgusted.

Impressive, modern centre featuring the regional coal industry

We stopped in here a couple of times on our travels to visit the cafe for morning coffee. Merlo coffee served which was good, staff and venue both pleasant and there were gluten free cake options available. Not really interested in a coal mining museum but it is certainly an impressive facility which appeared to also be quite informative.

Good for a stop but avoid the cafe

We stopped by the BICC specifically to see the Japanese Gardens…. Even though they were small in size, they were still nice to stroll around. We didn’t go into the museum, however grabbed a slice of quiche at the cafe - $9:50, and that’s just the quiche, no salad!! Absolute rip off and it took a good 5 minutes for them to transfer from a plate in the fridge to a container…. Not impressed! However, still work a stop here so long as u avoid the cafe!!

Definitely worth a stop

We really enjoyed the museum at the BICC and found the extensive information, models, displays and virtual reality experiences, fun and interesting. Entry was only $5 each. The giant buckets alone that are outside the building are worth a stop and a photo. Enormous! The adjoining Japanese Gardens are small but pretty. Our only criticism is the lack of signage for the café, museum and gardens. We could have easily missed these attractions which would have been a shame.

A nice little surprise

A nice little surprise in Blackwater. We had breakfast at the cafe, looked through the information centre and visited the Japanese Gardens. Food was delicious, the centre was interesting even if a a few exhibits were not working.

Being a local a must stop in Blackwater is the Cafe inside the International Coal Centre the food is so fresh and amazing and the staff are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them.
