We'd never been to Ventura Wildlife Park in Ware until today and it was great, so thought I'd share some photos. It's inside the grounds of the big Van Hage Garden Centre - which has a nice petting zoo bit itself too, plus a good restaurant and a miniature steam railway (£1 a go). I'd recommend it as an affordable day out as you can go in and out of the wildlife park during the whole day to see the different shows/talks/demos etc (£20 family ticket). The sunshine helped too as it's mostly outdoors.

We loved this small, well kept sanctuary for big cats, gibbons and other exotic animals. I always feel uncomfortable with lions in captivity but the explanation and care they give these animals is exceptional. Clean, safe and obviously loved animals... we very much enjoyed our day.

Smallest of all zoos that we have ever visited, Ventura is located inside the Van Hage garden centre. Very reasonably priced entry tickets (£7 for adults and £5 for kids over 2) with entry and exit as many times as you want.

The wildlife park has some rare and exotic species like the fossa, agouti, hutia and the raccoon dog. Not very large but has approximately 20-25 enclosures with the largest ones for the llamas, zebras, kangaroos, wallabies and emus. They also have reindeer.

We spent less than an hour looking at all the animals. There is a kiosk that sells hot and cold drinks. But if you want hot food you need to go to Cafe VH inside the garden centre. That’s when your re-entry comes handy in case you want to pop out and back in again.

We travelled for an hour to this place which might not be a great idea unless you want to make it day by combining shopping at the massive Van Have centre.

Hi thank you for visiting and taking the time to leave feedback, we value all feedback. We would like to point out we do not market ourselves as a day visitor attraction and our prices and unlimited entry system reflect this.

The zoo is within a garden centre, but is clearly signposted. There is free parking available. The entry price is very reasonable. Some of the animals have been rescued, which is great to see. We were delighted to see the Fossa up and about in its enclosure when we arrived. Some of the enclosures were a good size, with plenty of enrichment for the species within them. This being said, the larger animals (Zebras, Llamas etc.) should probably have larger enclosures. There is a small indoor area which houses reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. This was good, although the Crocodile enclosure was far too small. The signage within the park is very good, with good information about the species. Not a bad couple of hours.

Thanks for visiting and your review. We do try very hard to ensure our visitors enjoy and learn about our animals during their visit. Our crocodile is a baby and is only temporarily housed in her enclosure, she will move to a purpose enclosure in the future.

This park has some wonderful animals and the price to enter is very reasonable. However, we had some concerns. We are not wild animal experts but definitely animal lovers. We did notice some things.
1. The Dwarf Crocodile was sitting in very dirty water, when was the water last changed?
2. The smell of zebra urine was very strong and the animals seemed to be standing in it. We were wondering why this area had not been cleaned. It is very barren and depressing looking. There is no grass. The same applies to the Lamas.
3. The Kangaroo and Wallabys looked a bit under the weather, it is winter, I do admit. Their enclosure is depressing.
4. We watched a very indifferent young lady feed the Roos and the Reindeer. She entered the Roos enclosure first, she did not even acknowledge them, talk to them or pet them, just put the food in the trough and left. She did the same to the Reindeer. Not an animal person then, what was she doing there, we felt so sorry for the Roos. We were shocked at her indifference.
5. The Meet the animals was brilliant, what a wonderful, caring girl who obviously likes her job and the animals. Very enlightening.
I would be willing to pay more to get in so you could employ better and caring staff, I would like to see improvements made to this animal park.

Dear Brenda F, Firstly thank you for visiting our park and secondly taking to time to write a review. We do take all comments on board. Firstly I am glad you like the variety of animals we have, it is our goal to share some of the least know species with our guests. Our pricing is also carefully calculated based upon what our guest receive and the cost of the care that goes into our animals and the park itself. In regards to the points you raise I have outlined a response to each below: 1) Our crocodile pool is cleaned numerous times each week as part of our regular protocol. If you visited our park shortly after feeding time then the pool water can appear cloudy or sometimes oily looking. Our young dwarf crocodile eats items of feed like quail, mice, etc which can naturally make the water appear dirty. 2) Our zebra do produce urine and it smells, especially our male. Over the last few weeks we have had a lot of heavy rain so its likely the zebra paddock may have had puddles in it. In the wild our zebra would come from barren places and have to travel hundreds of miles in order to survive. Our enclosures adhere to all zoo requirements and our animals are regularly checked by the International Zoo Veterinary Group who provide veterinary care for the park's residents. 3) Our wallaby enclosure provides a suitable home to three species: red kangaroo, red-necked wallaby and emu. Our zoo vets regularly monitor our animals and there are no animals 'under the weather'. In fact fare from it, all our female wallabies have joeys in the pouches. 4) Our team members are qualified and love working with animals, however, we would be interested to know what date you visited and to provide a description of the individual who you describe as indifferent. All our team members wear name badges so maybe you got their name? Please feel free to email venturawildlifepark@venturawildlife.co.uk referencing your Trip Advisor name.

It was our 44th Zoo/Wildlife Park in the UK. Had a great day at Ventura Wildlife Park, good value for money for the size of it. They have some different animals compared to other Zoos/Wildlife parks. Their animals were very active, their encloser were clean and good sizes, we managed to see all of the animals that they had. The keepers were very good and know what they were talking about. The 2 o’clock show was very good; it was nice to get up close and hold some smaller animals. You can go and come back as many times as you like in a day which was nice, we went around about 3 times. It is also a good wildlife park for taken photos of the animals, which is good for us because we sell our photos. Look forward to going back again.

We were given this experience as a birthday gift so didn't know what to expect, the lemur experience is brilliant, very interactive with the lemurs jumping on you and you get to feed them by hand. The ranger was very friendly and knowledgeable giving us information on not only the lemurs but the foosa and armadillos.

The park itself is small but intimate and you are able to get close to animals. Would definitely pay another visit, especially to the lemurs.

We had this experience bought for us as a Wedding anniversary present. It is easy to get to as it is situated in Van Hagues garden Centre. There is lots of parking but not much advertising as to where it is actually situated. We did eventually find it and it was worth the searching. We had been given a special experience of feeding the Kangaroos, wallabies and Ostriches. What an experience! The kangaroos and wallabies were so gentle and the ostriches really went for it. We then saw the feeding of the Llamas and were able to feed those as well.
We actually spent around four hours looking at everything plus listening to a couple of talks by the staff and again we were able to hold giant millipedes, a giant snail, touch giant cockroaches, tortoise and other animals. We loved it!

Thank you for visiting our park and taking the time to leave a review. We are really glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to Ventura Wildlife Park. Unfortunately we are aware of the limited signage situation but as we do not own the garden centre grounds we are located within we struggle to implement signage. We have raised this with the garden centre owners many times over three years now and we are still waiting for these to be implemented. We look forward to welcoming you back on another exciting wildlife adventure.

What an excellent visit we had and an opportunity to see animals that we hadn’t seen in any other park and learn about them in the animal talks. Being quite a small venue, you can really see the animals up-close and they all looked beautifully cared for with shiny fur, or immaculate feathers or glistening scales and all were alert and active. The rangers were passionate about their wards and Amy was exceptional in showing us up-close the animals that particularly interested us. Excellent value for money and well worth another trip as there are plans for expansion.
