The lady at the store she was very informational let us know everything we needed to know. Our driver was Nate he was amazing also told us great stories the whole way. Let us know when we were coming to a ruff spots on the road to where we put our kayaks in. We really enjoyed our selfs it was my first time ever and I can't wait to go back! Saw lots of turtles.

I didn’t have a reservation but it is a good idea to make one if you have a group. The kayak was comfortable. The River was running a little fast and high, so the 3 1/2 hour tour took 2 1/2 hours. (They told us it would) very peaceful and serene views of cliffs, woods, wildlife.

Forget the negative reviews. Seems like those were just from people who were expecting an amusement park ride.
Mammoth Cave Canoe & Kayak is the closest river floating company to the park.
I took my wife, 3 boys, on a float trip over Spring Break. This was a last second decision as we noticed their location as we exited the park. So we stopped in and checked them out. Nate was super helpful, very courteous and didn't rush us into anything. He laid out what they were doing, the costs, what to expect on the float, and let us decide.
So for a family of 5, we have a bit of a disadvantage with a lot of things and we can add renting a canoe to that disadvantage. Canoes only handle 4 people. So we rented a canoe and we got our 13 year old a two-person kayak. He sat in the back and that left a perfect space for our cooler full of drinks, snacks, and our lunch.
We met Nate the next morning and he had everything all ready for us for our 7.5 mile trip. We knew exactly what we were getting in to when it came to lack of rapids on this stretch of the river and the time of year. Swimming in the water was highly discouraged.
Overall, we really enjoyed our float! Yes, there is a SMALL, repeat SMALL, cave not even 15 minutes into the float. It only goes about 50 feet in so not like you'll be floating in and being met with a bunch of animatronics and annoying music for the duration. We floated in, thought it was really cool, then turned around and floated back out. There are many submerged rocks around the cave so extra caution is encouraged.
There are two large islands and a beach in that 7.5 miles. We stopped at all three of them for us to stretch our legs, throw some rocks in the water, use the "bathroom" and enjoy our snacks and lunch.
The trips really do take about 3 hours or so if you actually take the time to enjoy it.
Yes, ALL milemarkers are posted! At the end, Nate was waiting for us and we assisted in getting the canoe and kayak back on to the trailer for the drive back to the shop.
Overall, it was a good experience with this company! Very reasonably priced and good service and good information about the trip as well. I highly recommend if you're looking for a very mellow time on the river!

I was a little disappointed to come to Mammoth Cave kayaking and only see one small cave that you can paddle one person at a time in and out of. Advertising online makes it sound way better. Trip was supposed to take 3-4 hours. We finished under 3 hours. We had to drag heavy kayaks up a ton of steps with no help. Then we had to wait with 3 other couples for over an hour to wait to be picked up. There was no phone service so we couldn’t even call to find out when someone was coming to pick us up. The river was calm and relaxing. You have to have some strength to paddle in some of the spots.

The river is peaceful, but monotonous. The trip is supposed to take 3-4 hours. We did it in 2 1/2 BECAUSE we had no idea where we were on the river. We saw no mile marker signs, and assumed we had 1-2 hours left of constant paddling. Which is exhausting, we could have floated more if it if we had known where we were. There was no river map given to us. We saw the ferry and knew that was the end. The entry point is very steep, the double kayak weighs a ton, though we received some help getting in the water, we received none getting out. Same situation getting out: a steep set of stairs with a slide with rollers ( which hardly helps) for the kayak with no help from the employees of the rental place who were there. We are 60 years old and can paddle, but dragging a kayak out of the water up a steep hill? No. We should have just left the kayak at the bottom of the steep hill and said, "go get it, we can't get it up the hill". Thanks for a highly stressful barely enjoyable river trip.

Excellent experience! Had a blast. Pileated woodpeckers such a bonus.
Because of Covid, we didn't want to be crowded into the van taking folks to the drop off site. The staff are fantastic, so accommodating. We drove our car to the end point while the driver dropped another couple off at the starting point and then took us to the starting point. It was a glorious morning with so much bird song. Great to see pileated woodpeckers.
Can't recommend this company enough. Simply excellent.

Last day of our trip, enjoyed exploring the cave at the beginning of our 6 mile trip. Several places to get out and cool off in shallow water on small Islands for drink and snack break. Enjoyed chatting with owner afterwards- great family atmosphere.

I'm interested in doing the 2 day trip. Do they set up the tents or do you bring your own gear and pick a spot ?

You have to bring your own gear and pick your own spot. (It's easy to camp on those gravel islands.) They aren't guides---just rent the boats, paddles, and pfd's.
I’m planning on doing a day trip...their website estimates 6 hours...are their kayaks that they rent equipped with seat backs? If not do their kayaks have the necesssary hooks so I can attach my own seat cushion and back rest?

Yes, they have “sit on top” kayaks, very comfortable. Take bungee cords or rope to hold any bag or cooler on the back of the kayak.

Can I get a list of camping sites available?

There aren't any designated camping sites. You just find a gravel bar and set up camp. Outside the park it is private land but the landowners don't seem to mind as long as you don't make a mess. Inside the park you need a backcountry permit (the outfitter can supply this).

Are these guided trips or do we just go on our own? Do they have canoes big enough for 4 ( 2adults, 2 child) ? Do you just show up at any point during the day or are there set times their shuttle runs? Sorry, Their website is not very informative! Thank you!

Are people still on their own as far as pulling the canoes up the hill goes? Have the owners addressed this issue at all?
