A lovely area for a walk and mini history lesson of the area. Not to mention many wines for pours. Sadly, hubby wanted to taste as part of his pour the Sirrah - a speciality of the winery. That was not available - so we left without any wine. Four stars for the grounds and beauty. Two stars for the winery itself.

A must see winery when in Paso. So much more than wines. Taste then wonder around the grounds. Many Sculptures a wall fresco with Paso history and much more.

Location / Ambience / Service: 4
Wine: 2
It’s hard for me to rate this place. I liked everything, except the wine. It’s a winery so I have to base my rating on the wine right? Or maybe it’s just a nice park that happens to serve wine? In that case it’s a 4.
Overall, it’s a great place to come with your friends and family, enjoy the grounds, get some food if it’s the weekend, and drink some not so great wine.
We came early on a Friday so there weren’t many people around but they did have a Greek food truck on the premises. Normally the tastings are standing only but the waitress was nice enough to bring our tastings over to us in the sitting area outside. They probably wouldn’t be able to do that during a busier time though. Overall the service was friendly and great. As for the location, the grounds are well kept and the statues are great.
Now for the wines. They give you 8 wines for a $20 tasting, which is quite good. But most of those wines are quite bad. The style here is overripe and sweet. And I mean residual sugar sweet, not just fruit forward. These are both, and that made most of the wines rather off putting for me. The only one I found palatable was the Reserve Primitivo. I may have even taken a bottle home, but they don’t offer to waive the tasting fee for bottle purchases like pretty much every other winery does.
It is a nice place to hang out and relax. And if you’re not picky about your wine quality you might not even notice the sub-par wines.

We did a wine tasting here. I am not a big fan of wine, but when in wine country…. Our sommelier was Savannah and she was amazing. She asked what I usually like to drink, since I’m not a wine drinker. She also questioned my husband oh his favorite kinds of wine. Then along with the standard wines, she also went and got a couple others for us to try, based on what we told her. I would highly recommend doing a tasting here if you are in the area. Along with the amazing tasting experience, the grounds are beautiful as well.

The only negative about Sculpterra is the less than warm greeting when you arrive. The hostesses need better training in conversating with guests and welcoming people. Our Wine host was excellent and the wines are very good. The grounds and art work are unbelievably beautiful. This small change would make the world of difference here.

Interesting place. Large sculpture garden and there was a live band and a food truck when we were there. The wine is just average though. Fun place to hang out or to dance but not for serious wine tasting.

Met several couples on a Sunday afternoon. Experienced a wonderful wine tasting and music in the yard. Casual yet refined all at the same time. My husband doesn't enjoy wine but went to appease me. He didn't feel like an outsider as the atmosphere was very friendly and relaxing among the vineyard under shaded trees. The wine selection was delicious and of course I walked away with a case or two. Worth the drive and afternoon.

We didn't try the wine as we were on bikes, but we've heard great things about it. The visit is a must see though as the gardens and sculptures are worth it in themselves. Definitely take the time and spend some time in the gardens while enjoying their wine.

Very beautiful winery. They have a garden where you can walk through it and see beautiful sculptures.
I did not have the wine tasting, but I had a couple of wine by the garden, it was so good, so calm. Love it.
It is a must see place if you were in Paso Robles. Worth it.

I am not much of a wine person but have always wanted to visit a winery for the beauty of them and this one looks so pretty with the sculptures and all. Is it possible to visit here without tasting too much wine? Maybe just a glass each and just touring the winery? Is there an entrance fee? We plan to go in a few weeks to see the light exhibition @Sensorio and visit the Mission and would really love to visit the winery.

Yes, it is free to walk around the grounds, including the sculptures and vineyards. My wife and I really enjoyed this aspect. The wine part of our trip was very enjoyable as well. We had an excellent host and we weren’t pressured at all to buy anything. We especially enjoyed their Viognier and did purchase 2 bottles, but again, there was no pressure to do so. I believe you can enjoy this winery on several levels.

Any attractions for kids

We are absolutely kid friendly! Our owner, Dr. Frankel, always wanted to create a winery you can bring your whole family to. Most kids(and adults too) love seeing the huge sculptures of horses and cats and mermaids that surround our tasting room, but when that excitement wears off some of the activities we have to keeps kids entertained include: coloring books and crayons, table tennis, foosball, bocce ball, chess, checkers, educational videos in our barrel room, and free wi-fi.

Please, who could tell me what the shade trees are lining the entrance walkway and throughout the grounds?
Thank you, Ruth

Hi Ruth,
Your first guess was exactly right! They are Chinese elms. We also have a lot of fruitless plum trees and white oak trees, but the shade trees throughout our garden are indeed Chinese elms.
Thanks for asking!
