We biked here from the city, didn't take long. You can also drive here and park up. Plenty of bird life here. The confluence of the rivers Tutaekuri and Ngaruroro can be seen beyond the rail bridge. Rubbish bins handy so no excuses for those who wear face nappies to dump them on the ground.

We came here for a nice walk on a Saturday. Loved the wonderful Maori carving and excellent signage to tell the stories of the significance of the carving. Great views of the sea and watching people fishing. Good for taking kids or a dog for a run.
Would recommend.

This park is on one of the bike trails that runs along Hawke's Bay in Napier. We paused here for a rest and got to see some very interesting Maori carvings arranged in a Celestial Circle. This area is an historical site and a sacred place for the Maori people.

This park gets 4 stars because of accessibility by a nice bike trail from Napier. About 9 km one way along the coast. The park has a large sun dial with Maori motifs and many seabirds.

This park is located on Awapuni Bay, as the Ngaruroro runs into the Pacific Ocean, just south of Napier. It offers a beach, walking and hiking trials and a collection of Maori wood carvings standing in a wide circle in the center of the park, The park is about 3 miles long and extends along the beach.

A newly created Regional Park with a Celestial Compass representing early Maori history and where the Treaty of Waitangi was brought to the local shores for signing. So ideally situated on SH.2, between both Napier and Hastings Cities and extremely handy for the tourist trade. The area is encompassed with a walk/cycleway which is easily negotiated from Napier or Clive. Within the park many native trees and plants are becoming established in support of this special area which is largely supported by the Napier Branch of the Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society of NZ. working in conjunction with Hawke's Bay Regional Council. With the establishment of wetland areas and plantings the area is fast becoming a natural living environment for our coastal birds and fish.

If you're into the maori culture and history, it's for sure worth stopping there, if you're close by. There is a parking lot very close by, so it is just a 5 min. walk. And if you're into the history part, then visit the Treaty Grounds in Bay of Islands (3 hours north of Auckland).

Celestial compass as used by the discoverers of New Zealand has been updated recently with info boards & the Wetlands have also been upgraded. A lesson in history by sight. A must see. Free to all visitors. Ample parking.
