Christine escorted my wife and I on an easy walk of art places in Hobart town. Introduced us to practicing artists, gave us opportunities to buy using Tasmania Government's generous loans scheme, checked out the TAFE's art-print shop and The Art-Hotel, and saw a current installation that was in its final stage of being. Insightful comments, informative and responsive to our questions, and all-in-all, a delight.

Oh wow, please unless your an extra fit person don't stay in battery point. We did and I'm not fit. Every day sometimes up to four times a day we had to walk up and down these steps called " Kelly steps" to reach our accomodation. The steps are very old and there are 60 of them that go vertically up. By the time I reached the top I thought I was going to die. They need to provide a better access to the top as not all of us are young and fit.

A few years ago, we heard about hobARTwalks while staying at the Henry Jones Art Hotel, and went on the North hobARTwalk with Christine Scott. We were so impressed, and going on another walk was the first thing I thought of when we booked a return trip. This time the walk was in the Salamanca area and we met Sarah as well, who with Christine is so knowledgeable about all things art in Hobart. We had such a good time with them, and like our last experience, felt we were being introduced to artists, galleries and the history of the area in a way which we could otherwise never have experienced. These walks are an absolute must if you are interested in art and would like to learn more about Hobart's exciting art world. Thank you again Christine and Sarah.

I headed to Hobart with the main aim of visiting the MONA and decided on my last day to join a morning HobARTwalk run by Christine Scott and Sarah Beith. What a great choice! Our group was small and the pace of the walk leisurely - while at the same time being both stimulating and inspiring. Hobart is chockablock full of art - galleries, shops, markets - so you might wonder - where to start, where to go, where to linger? Christine & Sarah's extensive and firsthand knowledge of the world of art and artists in Hobart meant they could take us from place to place, honing in on fabulous and interesting art work and art spaces, introducing us to artists in their studios and finishing with a behind the scenes, insider's visit to the wonderful Art School and Henry Jones Art Hotel - both housed in restored 19th Century factories right at the edge of the harbour. They are delightful hosts, strolling along, providing fascinating tidbits of information, discussing art and indeed the world in general. By the end of the walk I felt like I'd spent the day with like minded friends and left for the airport wistfully turning to look over my shoulder, wanting more of Hobart. Thankyou both for a great day out! I look forward to returning and joining another of your art walks.

On my last day in Hobart, I took an art walking tour of with Christine. Christine knows everything that is going on in the art world in Hobart. She has an extensive network of artists, galleries and friends . Christine is up on the latest exhibitions and reviews and knows exactly where to go. Whether you want to buy or look, she will take you to the best galleries, Writing about art is hard for me. It is translating the visual into language . They are two very different mediums. You have to go to Hobart and take the art tour with Christine to experience it for yourself. For more info go to http://travelwellflysafe.com/2014/02/04/hob-art-tasmania/

We did the Cove art walk, which covers the story of the historic Henry Jones Art Hotel itself, its art collection and galleries, the university's school of art and art galleries and artists' studios at Salamanca Place. The pace is very relaxed, our guides Christine and Sarah were very knowledgeable, and the opportunity to go behind the scenes at all the venues was just marvellous. The range of genres by many different artists was also great to see: landscape painting, portraiture, contemporary art, printmaking and other works on paper--our guides were very inclusive and democratic about what they showed us. This tour is really worthwhile for anyone interested in the Hobart art scene. We plan to do the other tours on offer in future.

Reciently my wife and I were given the gift of a Cove Art walk which is one of four HobART walks in Hobart. Even though we are locals having the opportunity to observe art students and local artists during the creative process, seeing the architecture and art works in the IXL Art Hotel and learning about its colourful history was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The tour provides a unique experience by providing access to art in venues that most tourists and locals would not normally see. From the meeting point at Tug to the Despard gallery we were entertained by our hosts Christina Scott and Sarah Beith. The tour ended with Tasmanian nibbles and wine which was a great way to wind up.

If you are visiting Hobart to go to MONA, as we did last week, you may like to be aware of hobARTwalks. These ARTwalks are a new venture by Christine Scott, curator of the collection at the Henry Jones Art Hotel, and are in response to guests asking Christine to consider tours of the wider Hobart art community.
We went on the North HobARTwalk and loved it - it was an insider guide to galleries and collections we would not otherwise have known existed. It was frustrating not to have the time to experience all the walks - they will be a treat for the future.
We recommend these reasonably priced, very enjoyable ARTwalks, and thank Christine for adding so much to our art experience in Hobart.
