Beautiful campus and building. I have to say I was less than wowed by the exhibits. I had looked online, and should have realized the museum wasn't what I expected. Montreal has so much fun and quirky Architecture, I assumed there'd be something of that here, but alas, the main exhibits was The Lives of Documents—Photography as Project and was photographs of places all over the world, but not necessarily interesting Architecture. I guess I should have read the mission or more details. On the plus side, the museum was free when we went (Thursdays after 5)

I found this in a guidebook and thought, this could be fun to learn about Canadian architecture. And it's only $10? Sign me up!

It was so dull, so boring. There were 2 exhibits when we went, both were small and we spent very little time there.

I learned NOTHING about architecture, by the way. The building itself is interesting to look at, but I would not waste my time (or money) on this. There are FAR better, more interesting things to do in Montreal.

I hate leaving reviews like this, but I call it as I see it. I was surprised at how lackluster this was as I had high hopes for an entertaining day. I don't think we even spent one hour here.

Seek. Fun. Elsewhere. That's my advice.

I should have read the reviews before selecting this very unusual display venue. I use term “display venue” because it’s not a museum and there is basically no connection to architecture. It’s just a building that acts as a venue for some odd exhibits.

The exhibit on display during our visit was called “Retail Apocalypse” and focused on rampant consumerism and the shift to on-line purchases away from brick and mortar stores. The exhibit is not politically neutral; nonetheless it makes at least one or two valid observations in the midst of a mess that poses as artistic and inclusive.

Time budget: 30 minutes

Overall cleanliness: above average

Staff: helpful

I have been to CCA many times over the years, and have found their exhibits to be very informative and thought-provoking. Their current exhibition, "Building a new New World: Amerikanizm in Russian Architecture," was one of their best. The topic is very relevant and relatable. As always, there is a great deal of reading, but there are many more models, books, and other physical artifacts than in some past exhibitions. Their website states that the exhibit adopts an "expanded definition of architecture and of culture that encompasses industrial and graphic design, music, photography, film, and literature." This broader focus gives it a broader appeal. The film clips they've chosen are particularly enjoyable.

The building is beautiful, and the bookstore is most definitely worth a visit. If you are in Montreal for more than two or three days, I recommend a few hours at CCA.

There is very little in the way of exhibits, but entry is free on Thursday evenings after 5:30pm so it may be worth a visit if there's something good on. The gift shop is very nice however, with a lot of design and architecture books as well as postcards.

Bravo, the museum certainly presents the information in an interesting and most understandable manner. Excellent for all ages.

Nice historic mansion. One nice exhibit on how personal happiness is used to design living spaces. However, museum is very limited and learned nothing about architecture in Montreal. On the plus side, it was very inexpensive to visit. Recommend you use the Atwater metro stop on the green line, rather than the Georges-Vaneir metro stop on the orange line which is a uphill climb through an auto tunnel.

We enjoyed wandering through the exhibits currently set up and really enjoyed wandering around the Van Horne/Shaughnessy House. Originally 2 semi-detached houses - one occupied by Duncan McIntyre and the second first by William Van Horne and later by Thomas G. Shaughnessy; the houses have been combined into a lovely space. The space showcases beautiful ornate plaster and woodwork throughout including lovely marquetry (or parquetry?) flooring and a cozy conservatory.

Well presented and curated exhibits, and the book store has a wealth of text to peruse. It would be nice if there were more exhibits and customer service was worse for anglophones than francophones, but my overall visit was enjoyable.
