I prefer it late afternoon/early evening when there are fewer riders. If one only wants to go one way, suggest take the bus and bike on Roam to Banff and ride back with the favourable Westerly. Bear spray recommended. Only one hill heading to Banff where some opt to walk up. Seeing more and more E-Bikes on this trail, but those with a throttle are supposedly not meant to be there.

We have ridden this trail several times now and love the trail! It is well maintained and features some spectacular views.

This trip was cut short due to a mechanical failure of one of our riders who unfortunately had a tire explosion that resulted in him going over the bars, hitting his face on the pavement and breaking his arm just below the shoulder. I was surprised and VERY disappointed to hear that one of the oncoming riders told him to "move off the trail cause he was blocking traffic" when he had just crashed and was in a great deal of pain.

There are unfortunately some people on this trail that think they are training for the Olympics and the rest of us are just in their way - so be careful. There were three different incidents that day which resulted in the ambulance being called (I was in the emergency room to witness it).

On a side note: one of the first people to stop was a paramedic, another that stopped was a doctor and two others who helped clean the scene worked at the hospital - so you don't seem to have to wait too long for some quality help. We always carry a First Aid kit when biking/hiking - I would suggest having at least the basic necessities.

Keep to the right of the trails. Use your bells. Watch out for others - they may not be watching out for you!

A fairly easy ride between Canmore and Banff. We took a 9 year old through to a 61 year old. No rush and everyone on the trail is polite and goes their own pace. All told it ends up about 43+ Kms but it is lovely

Fun ride between Canmore and Banff and on paved trail. We are staying in Canmore so rented bikes (ebikes and regular bikes) for the ride. We hung out in Banff for a while- shopped and ate before returning.

Took 1:15 to Banff and only 52 minutes on the return due to elevation and tailwinds.

We went on a Tuesday and the trail was not to busy, which was nice.

If you dont cycle alot, i would recommend an ebike. 48 KM round trip is quite a ride for non-regular cyclists, yet a relatively easy ride for regular cyclists.

Yes- it is mostly close to the highway, but we were not bothered by that... There are some great views of Cascade Mtn as you approach Banff and Rundle Mountain near Canmore.

I would recommend this trip- it was fun.

Scenic and enjoyable ride but go early as it can get busy especially on weekends and parking is limited at the Canmore Visitor Centre. As the trail follows beside the highway, the traffic noise is high and can deter from the full enjoyment. Its fun for families but the Peloton bike racers are a nuisance with their high speed so always ensure to keep to the right to be safe.

Nice ride with a few small-medium hills (depending what you are used to cycling). We started at Canmore Visitor Centre (Difficult to find parking on the weekend) & rode to the Chili’s in Banff and back which was about 43 km. The ride itself was under 3 hours, but we took many stops and went at a slow pace as my spouse is not used to much physical activity. Hardest part is sitting on a bike this long if you aren’t used to it. People of various ages and fitness levels do this trip and, although there are a lot of people on the trail, it never caused problems. Giving this a 4* as its an accomplishment to do the ride but there are a lot more scenic rides in there.

We find the ride easier from Banff to Canmore, so we typically park at the Canmore visitor center and then go to Banff, lunch, and return. 1.5 hours to get to Banff. 1.0 to return to Canmore.

this is a very popular and very well maintained bike, rollerblade, roller ski, running trail between the Canmore Nordic Centre all the way to the 1A turnoff just west of Banff. We have cycled the stretch many times using different starting points in Canmore and stopping for a bite and a stretch at various spots but our favourite for a light lunch is at the Cascade Ponds day use area. Along the way we have seen all sorts of wildlife including having a whole large herd of elk come and visit us at lunch at the Ponds. It's a good ride with some good hills so it becomes a good workout. Some parts are further from the TransCanada Highway but still has traffic noise AND you are right next to the rail tracks too.
However, because it is so popular we have found that the westerly direction gets very busy by 11am but it's quite different if you get going a bit earlier.

Saw all ages & abilities on the trail. Best order is Canmore to Banff and then back. Somewhat noisy being near the highway, however the views and enjoyment of the experience are still worth it. Parking was full at the Canmore Visitor Centre so we grabbed a spot just down the road.

Did this bike ride with my boyfriend and we both LOVED it. We rode to Banff and back! For sure will do it again, very beautiful.
On the way to Banff it’s a bit challenging and the head wind, but heading back to Canmore it’s a breeze!
