Assaulted and Robbed at the Moorings

On August 23, 2022, my wife, my friend, and I sailed our boat from Marigot Bay, St Lucia, to some moorings run by the SMMA near the Pitons. We had been to the Windward Islands of the Caribbean before, but had not seen the iconic site of these two steep mountains on the same bay. We were looking forward to our time in the area. The view is awe inspiring.

The next night we were beat up by two men with knives who were dropped off at our boat. They left no water on the floor, so someone took them to us. After we started beating them up, they jumped overboard and began swimming to shore. We did not get a look at them, due to darkness. 

My wife had two black eyes, and knife lacerations on her face. I had two knife cuts on my face, one eye completely swollen shut, and possibly a fractured jaw. I could not open my mouth more than an inch for weeks without pain.

The local police took a report, but seemed way more worried about the reputation of Soufriere than that we were assaulted.

When in Rome...

While the Soufriere Marine Management Area was not spectacular. I have been to sulfur springs that were much larger and more gtand..but...we were on the island and this is one of the main tourist spots. It was still a lot of fun and an experience. I would say GO FOR It!

Beautiful place, but be careful with your choices

It is beautiful place for short stay. Some cheap restaurants, coral reef (not exceptional), bat cave with awful smell ;). Be careful with your tour guide choice! We chose a guy named Ivory and were disappointed. They rip off tourists and their services were very poor.

I DO NOT RECCOMEND TOURS WITH A GUY NAMED IVORY! (Picture below - he and his boat) He is overpriced, the service is poor, he lied about the price of the trip, he didn't deliver a guide for a trip!!! TERRIBLE! I ADVICE TO NOT MAKE BUSINESS WITH THIS GUY! He offers his services mostly for boats - sailors, be careful!

Mud

We visited the sulphur springs and mud baths. The bubbling sulphur was ok for a visit, but it's only a short visit where you have a small talk about the volcano before traders try and stop you leaving to try and sell you things. A bit further down though is the mud baths which is fun.

No lockers so be mindful of your belonging. There is outdoor showers to clean yourself off after.

There's several pools of mud baths you can get into each with a stream of water going from one to the other. They are pretty hot, but once in it's quite relaxing.

Tourist trap

If you do this prepare for crowds and sharing the same nasty mud with strangers. Don’t bring any personal belongings with you either, there are no lockers. We walked in, felt immediately uncomfortable and walked out. That was a waste of money.

The mud bath is a must do in St. Lucia. The mud leaves your skin feeling so soft and smooth. The water is very warm too.

Fun to be in the mud.

Come early, as place can get pretty crowded. Let the guide paint you with the all shades of gray mud and enjoy relaxing in the mud that makes you 10 years younger.

trop drole et super efficace contre les coup de soleil

de toutes les caraïbes c'est le truc qui nous a le plus éclater. on a coupler avec la visite de la souffriere (volcan) juste au dessus
des adultes qui se roulent et se tartinent de boue et qui en plus payent pour ça, je vous dit la tête de nos enfants au retour.
sans rire, c'est chaud, vraiment chaud mais quand on se décident à sortir, on est toutes douces et adieu les coups de soleil qui faisaient mal.
pour le mode d'emploi : on se changent dans les petites (et rustiques) cabines en bois et on laisse ses affaires sur des étagères. prévoir de vielles tong en plastiques pour les petits cailloux avant d’accéder aux bassins
on commence à se tartiner de boue gris clair et après on prend le seau de boue noir et au choix, on tartine, on dessine, on tague
on passe d'un bassin dans un autre et après une douche glaciale (pour de vrai) on repasse par les petites cabines tout en rigolant beaucoup
il y a des boutiques à touristes en haut mais attention les prix, ils nous voit arriver

Sulfur in the Air

I am a nerdy girl, so I enjoyed the museum and volcano. I did not get to take a mud bath, but my friend did and she really enjoyed it. As with most volcanoes, explorers have to do a lot of walking up and down hills. People with breathing issues may want to opt out because the sulfur may cause you problems. We visited a waterfall on the way down which was small but beautiful.
