Wonderful day in Austria

My wife and I took the day trip to Hallstatt with our guide Peter. The trip was well planned and Peter was a fantastic guide with a comfortable van. The Hallstatt visit alone would have been worth the price, but we stopped at a couple of towns and lakes along the way and Peter kept us informed (and entertained) along the way with background and history of Austria and commentary about current events. He was patient with my many questions and was flexible when members of our tour wanted to modify rest stops, etc. We had a separate guide in Hallstatt and she was also informative and accommodating and was quite helpful assisting some of us with purchasing tickets to some of the local attractions. The day was one of the best of our trip to Europe. We highly recommend this company.

Picturesque Hallstatt

Hallstatt is a must see with amazing views around every corner! Our tour guide was knowledgeable and we enjoyed seeing and learning about the town. A special shout-out to White Alligator Tours ... due to high water levels our boat was not able to get us to the pick up point in Vienna ... WAT worked with us on an alternative pick up point and we were able to make the trip!

Great tour
I had a great time during the tour.
Markus was a great and funny guide. They allow you to spend some free time at the stopping points to do whatever you want.
Hallstatt is a beautiful (little crowded) place, enjoy your free time wisely.

Beware of the supposed free hotel pick-up and 24hr cancellation promises

Beware! If you book directly on this company's website, it tricks you into paying via PayPal even if you enter a credit card # separately to pay by credit card. Then, it asks for your hotel because Vienna hotel (pick-ups and drop-offs are included) and all seems great. But the next day, (if the same as my experience), you'll receive an email saying that your Vienna hotel 'is outside the pick-up radius for the tour' and that you'll have to find your own way to a meeting place downtown. When I went to cancel (per their 'free 24 cancellation policy'), they deducted $12.40 for a 'Paypal booking fee' from my refund. I think this is both deceptive and unfair. I'm sharing so others can be made aware before booking.

Dear JBSouthFla, thank you very much for your review. Kindly note that the things you are stating here are simply not correct. First of all, you booked your Hallstatt Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna with us through our homepage by accepting our Terms of Service. Without clicking on „I agree to Terms of Service”, no booking is possible. The Terms of Service (ToS) clearly regulate the cancellation policy. Since the existence of this company for over 5 years, no other Customer had difficulties with the interpretation of the ToS. Section 6 of the ToS states the following: a, Free cancellation up to 24 hours before activity start time (if applies, PayPal fee to be paid by Customer)”. The only method you can pay via our homepage is by PayPal (it is also stated clearly on our homepage). Since PayPal offers the option with credit card payments going through them, this is no “trick” as it is a completely legit method. No PayPal account is required for this procedure. Regarding the pick-up our homepage states the following: “Tour starts from: Your hotel or private apartment in Vienna (except outer districts)”. After you booking the Hallstatt tour with pick-up in the outer areas of Vienna (your hotel was 6kms or 3.7 miles away from the city center), we informed you that the location was outside the pick-radius for the tour. We provided you with three alternative pick-up locations. After offering you the alternative pick-up locations, you sent us an e-mail saying that the cancellation part was „quite hidden in the booking process and did not state the amount of the penalty when describing the 24 hour cancellation policy”. In a separate email, you decided to cancel the tour without providing any further information. Your original payment, minus the PayPal fee of EUR 9.64 as per above already mentioned cancellation policy, was immediately refunded. Kindly note that if you would have read through the information provided on our website, including the Terms of Service (easily accessible), you would have been informed about all the booking and pick-up details. This was definitely not the situation in your case. You are trying to blame us for your own mistake by not reading through the information on the homepage. Your claim that the hotel pick-up would not be “free”, is another falsehood. Pick-ups are free, but because Vienna, a city of 2 million inhabitants, is extremely expanded, for organizational reasons, our drivers can’t get to every corner in the morning. Therefore, we are offering alternative pick-up locations for Customers booking from outer areas. Only this way we can guarantee the schedule of our tours. In order to avoid a similar experience in the future, we strongly recommend you to read the details of a service in advance once you purchase it. Regards, The White Alligator Tours Team

We enjoyed the actual trip but it was far too long for us. Beautfiul countryside and views, it was booked for us from another site but we are unable to review it.

Awesome experience
The drive there was pleasant with a toilet break in between and the 1st sight seeing stop is at Lake Attersee and it was beautiful and serene. Then the next stop will be at St Gilgen where Mozart is born and the family of Mozart lives there! Unfortunately we don’t have enough time to visit Mozarthaus at St Gilgen. Then we are well on our way to Hallstatt and along the drive the driver talked about the history of Vienna to Hallstatt.
Then we are handed over to the Hallstatt local guide which also have a very informative history of Hallstatt. Overall it was a very good experience.

Worth the trip from Vienna.
Our guide Balasz was wonderful. He sincerely wanted to ensure everyone was comfortable, including comfort stops if needed. The tour itself was breathtaking.

Our guide took us to all five lakes in the Lake District of the Alpine mountains. It was exactly how we imagined Austria away from the big cities. Each village was unique and had so much character. Hallstatt was absolutely beautiful, and Helga the local guide charming and spunky.

There are a lot of advantages to being in a small group. Balasz even gave us a little extra time, as everyone in the our group of six was truly enjoying every second of the trip. The only downside is the long drive, but Balasz explained the sites helping the time go by as we travelled. No one wanted a comfort stop on the return, so we made good time back to Vienna. Like most tours, there is never enough time and you want to stay and see more, but there are only so many hours in a day. Thank you White Alligator tours and thank you Balasz and Helga!

If you have the time, it is worth the journey!!

Excellent day trip
Marco was an excellent tour guide. We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel which was very convenient. The scenery was beautiful and we were thankful to be in a small group rather than on a large bus. Be prepared to do some walking and to be in the sun.

Loved the small group tour with additional stops!
I really enjoyed the small group tour, as we were able to stop by a couple of places that were not reachable by buses. The additional stops also made the three-hours ride feel shorter. Our guide Peter is very friendly and professional, and the local guide also did a great job introducing this beautiful village. I highly recommend this tour!
